Step #Action
1To get started with Skype, first, open the app on your iPhone.
Look for the app’s icon, which you can find pictured below, on your iPhone’s home screen and then tap on it.
Note: If you don’t have Skype installed on your iPhone, it’s free to download. Simply open your App Store and search for “Skype.” When you find it in the search results, select it and tap on the “Get” button. Your iPhone will download it momentarily.
2If this is your first time using Skype, you will have to log in using your account details (for apps like Skype, you will need a Windows account to log in)
If you don’t have a Windows account yet, you can make one by choosing the option that lets you create a new Skype account.
3Once you’ve logged in, you’ll find yourself on a screen that looks a lot like what the image below shows.
4Ensure that you’re on the Chat tab by tapping on the icon that’s labeled “Chats,” which looks like a speech bubble. (An image of this is shown below)

It’s worth noting that, sometimes, you will already find yourself on the Chats tab of your Skype application.
5Once on the “Chats” tab, you can start messaging someone by tapping on the “New Chat” button. (An image of this button can be seen below)
6Tapping on the “New Chat” button will open a new window, as shown in the image below.

You have the option of typing the name of the person you want to message on the search bar or scrolling down the people tab for the person you want to chat with.
7Once you find the contact of your choosing, tap on their name.
8The Skype app will open a chat window with your chosen contact, as shown in the image below.

Tap on the space labeled “Type a message,” type your message, and then press the Send button to send that instant message.
9Congratulations! You’ve used Skype to send an instant message from your iPhone!
