While one of the main ways people connect to the internet would be through a WiFi connection, there are other ways you can do this. For example, if you’re on the move or not at home, another way to stay connected would be through your mobile data. Much like your WiFi connection, mobile data also allows you to connect to the internet. This then helps you do all the things you would with your other typical internet connections. So, with that in mind, this article will teach you how to connect to the internet using the mobile data on your Android phone!

Step #Action
1To use mobile data to connect to the internet, you must first have a mobile data plan.
Once you have a phone and a sim card with a data plan, you can then use this to connect to the internet via mobile data.
2There are two ways you can turn on your mobile data: through the Quick Settings menu (the dropdown menu) or your phone’s settings. To turn on mobile data through your settings, first look for the Settings app and open it.
All Settings apps have a gear for their icon, an example of which can be found below:
3Upon opening the Settings app, look for the option that says “Mobile Network,” “Sim Cards and Mobile Network,” or “Connections” and tap on it. An example of this can be found in the photo below:
4You will be taken to another window that will look something like this:

Tap on the option that says “Data Usage.”
5You will be taken to a screen that looks something like this:

To turn on your mobile data, tap on the slider next to the option “Mobile Data.”
However, on some Android phones, you may find yourself at a screen that looks like this after tapping on “Mobile Network,” “Sim Cards and Mobile Network,” or “Connections”:

Much like the previous step, simply tap on the slider that’s next to the Mobile Data option to turn on your data.
7Aside from turning on your mobile data, you can also choose what kind of data connection you want to use. You can do this by tapping on the “Mobile Networks” option.
8After tapping on “Mobile Networks,” you’ll find yourself on this screen:

Here you can choose whether to use 2G, 3G, or LTE mobile data connections (with 2G being the slowest and LTE the fastest) and opt to use LTE for any voice calls you make using your mobile data.
9You also have the option to use less data when you use your mobile data connection to connect to the internet. You can find this option under the “Data Usage” screen (as shown below).

Simply tap on the “Data Saver” option and select “On” option to turn on the Data Saver feature of your Android phone.
10One other way you can turn on your mobile data is through your Quick Settings menu. All you need to do is swipe down from the top of your phone, and you’ll find yourself on this screen:
11Tap on the button labeled “Mobile Data” (an example of which is shown below), and it will change color, indicating that you’ve switched on your Data.
12If you want to turn it off, all you need to do is go back to your Android phone’s settings or your phone’s Quick Settings and shut it off from there
13Congratulations! You know how to connect to the internet using the mobile data on your Android phone!
