Whether for work or personal reasons, almost everyone uses an instant messaging app to communicate with others nowadays. However, while it’s something that’s become an everyday thing–so much so that we may take it for granted sometimes–it wasn’t as common years ago. Whereas we now have an abundance of instant messaging apps nowadays, before, there were only a handful of apps that let us send instant messages to one another–Skype is a perfect example of this. Despite the vast selection of instant messaging apps available, Skype still manages to be one of the popular applications for a good reason. With that in mind, we’ll teach you how to use Skype messenger, one of the longest-standing and most reliable messaging apps out there.

Step #Action
1To get started, first, open the Skype app on your Android phone.
Look for the app’s icon (pictured below) on your Android phone’s app drawer or home screen, then tap on it.
Note: If Skype isn’t installed on your Android phone, you can download it for free. All you need to do is open the Google Play Store, search for “Skype,” and look for it in the search results. Select the app, then download it on your phone. You’ll be good to go afterward.
2If you’re using Skype for the first time, you will have to log in to your account. (For Skype, a Windows account is needed to log in)
If you don’t have a Windows account, you can make one by selecting the option to create a new account.
3Once you’re logged in, you will be taken to a screen that looks similar to what’s shown in the image below.
4Now, go to the Chat tab by tapping on the speech bubble-shaped icon that’s labeled “Chats.” (A closer look at the icon can be seen in the image below)

(However, sometimes, you may already be on the Chats tab of your Skype app.)
5When you’re on the “Chats” tab, you can start sending instant messages by tapping on the button labeled “New Chat.” (A closer look at the button is shown below)
6A new window (shown below) will open as soon as you tap the “New Chat” button.
You can search for the person you want to message by typing their name on the search bar or scrolling through the contacts listed on the window.
7When you find the person you want to message, tap on their name.
8Skype will open a chat window with your chosen person, as demonstrated in the image seen below.

To send them a message, tap on the space labeled “Type a message,” enter your message, and then press the Send button.
9Congratulations! You’ve used Skype to send an instant message from your Android phone!
Conclusion
Instant messaging is something that most people use nowadays. Not only is it accessible, but it’s also one of the quickest ways to contact someone over the internet. So, it stands to reason why many people choose to utilize this little technological nicety. However, before all these instant messaging apps became widely available, there used to be only a handful of these apps and programs that let you do this. Skype is a perfect example of this, having been around for over a decade, letting people half a world away reach each other at the touch of a screen. Skype’s still around today, and it’s because it’s still reliable and it’s easy to use. So, it makes sense why people use the app. All you need to do is open Skype, look for the person you want to talk to, type your message, and send it. In seconds, the message will get sent to the person of your choosing.
